Spotlight profile

I am an Irish non-binary actor who recently graduated from the Lir Academy in Dublin. Outside of acting I love 3D design, photography, making stuff, reading, maths and science fiction.”

What did you choose to perform for the Spotlight Prize and why did you pick it?

I wanted to use the opportunity of being able to do any pieces I liked as a fun little ’conceptual project’ to convince myself this isn’t a competition but a chance to be creative. So I chose two monologues broadly based around parental figures and how they interrelate to masculinity and femininity (whatever those terms mean) – Andre’s Mother by Terrence McNally and Fatherland by Simon Stephens. Although the pieces are not similar, it comforts me to think of the monologues as two different characters in one deranged show that i’m putting on in my head revolving around those themes.

What’s your dream role?

A vampire – any kind, any time.

What kind of performer do you aspire to be?

One who doesn’t take themselves too seriously.

What have you recently watched, read or listened to that inspired you?

I am huge Cinephile and try to watch at least three films a week if I can. I recently loved Hit the Road by Panah Panahi – the performances in that movie made me absolutely bawl my eyes out and I forced everyone I know to sit down and watch it with me.
